AVR members Amie and Tim Sibley together with Rob Collier, took on the Albion Running organised Westcountry Flat 50-mile ultra, writes Dave Mutter.
Despite the title of the event, the run was actually one of 52 miles and it included no less than 1,800 feet of climb!
Starting in Taunton the route follows the canal to Bridgewater and then the River Parrett to the coast. It heads west along the coastline with a slight inland diversion around Hinckley Point before returning to the coast. There is then another inland diversion through East /West Quantoxhead returning to the coast at Watchet and finishing in Minehead.
This was the first attempt at 50 miles for all three and was some 20 miles further than they’d run before. Rob had a couple of navigational issues and ended up running 53 miles, but still managed to finish sixth in a time of eight hours and 37 minutes.
Tim and Amie Sibley really enjoyed the variety of scenic views that Somerset has to offer and were pleased to complete the event together in a time of 13 hours and 56 minutes.
