AVR member Diana Burn completed St Neots Half Marathon in slightly chilly and windy conditions, but the sun was shining, writes Dave Mutter.

Diana was very pleased with her performance which saw her register a new PB (personal best) with her time being two hours and 12 minutes. What’s more, she was also placed first in her age category.

Twenty-four AVR’s travelled to Castle Drogo for the Drogo 10 race organised by South West Road Runners. This is a challenging 10 mile multi terrain race that starts and finishes in the shadow of the magnificent Castle Drogo.

There are several steep climbs including the final climb to Drogo along the infamous energy sapping climb along the Hunters Path from Fingle Bridge, but the runners have stunning views of the Teign Valley wearing its Autumn colours. The course was drier than normal and the finishers were rewarded with glorious Autumn sunshine and well earned refreshments.

Jack Broom was 1st AVR, 8th overall (1:08:29) in a field of 347. Several AVR’s collected prizes, Rob Collier 21st (1:14:10) 1st male vet 50, Eleanor Wood 66th (1:26:23) 1st lady vet 60.

Other AVR finishers were Richard Hardy 20th (1:13:59); Ben Stone 22nd (1:14:16); Rupert Pady 35th (1:18:33); Chris Polley 71st (1:26:57); Simon Davey 83rd (1:28:51); Karen Eyre 85th (1:29:01); Andy West 90th (1:29:34); Ian Kinnersley 93rd (1:30:07);  Kerry Board 111th (1:32:14); She Hayes 163rd (1:39:01); Jeremy Slade 185th (1:42:22); Kevin Feeney 205th (1:44:55); Jeremy Larcombe 206th (1:44:58); Alan Morbey 216th (1:47:44); Katherine Moran 266th (1:54:05); John Larcombe 273rd (1:54:26); Sam Miller 279th (1:55:53); Tony Smith 279th (1:55:53); Emma Richardson 302nd (2:03:21); Sam Tooze 305th (2:03:34) and Jason Hyde 340th (2:30:28).

In the Team Competitions Kerry Board/Sue Hayes were 1st Female Vets 45; Rob Collier/Rupert Pady 1st Male Vets 50; Andy West/ Ian Kinnersley 1st Male Vets 60 and Kevin Feeney/John Larcombe 1st Male Vets 65.

James Denne of Gloucester AC won the latest Seaton Parkrun in 16:00 with Wayne Loveridge 2nd, 16:36 and AVR’s Joel Seward was third in 17:33.

Away from Seaton Paula and David Cooke ran the Stretford (Manchester) parkrun which is mostly in Longford Park starting and finishing on the 400m running track which is home to Trafford AC.

The remainder of the run is on tarmac paths in the park. The course is almost completely flat and ideal for a PB. They ran together in 29m40s which was an all-time parkrun PB for Paula. Also, Gill and Jon Day ran the Tamar Trails parkrun just outside Tavistock which is a fantastic parkrun going through and around a lovely wooden valley and old tin mining works.

They were pleasantly surprised to see two AVR Friends at the start – Susie and Joe Pitt. Jon was 1st in age group, 6th overall in 21:32 a dog assisted Susie Pitt was 36th in 27:17 and Gill was 49th in 30:46 out of 78 finishers. Unfortunately, Joe Pitt was injured so he marshalled and gave them a great cheer on their way.
