For Graham Newton, getting to the start of the Dorset Doddler’s Stickler race was a battle in itself as the torrential rain had made some of the road to Shillingstone, where the race was to start, impassable due to flooding, writes Dave Mutter.

The race itself was yet another challenge, 10 miles of multi terrain with three massive hills totalling over 1,500 feet of elevation, running through mud and sometimes waist deep water, and finish on the platform of the old Shillingstone Railway station.

Despite all this Graham managed to finish in a time of 1:36:37, which saw him cross the line, 117th overall out of 381 runners, and first male vet over 70, and was rewarded with a small oak tree sapling for his efforts.

Chard’s Wayne Loveridge won the latest Seaton Parkrun in 17:02 with AVR’s Matt Hewer taking second place in 19:10 and Adam Hennessey, with a time of 19:21, was third.
