Axminster Town were 3-1 winners when they entertained Joma Devon & Exeter League Premier Division outfit Lyme Regis in their latest pre-season game.
The contest, played on a sizzling hot night, saw Town create plenty of chances, but they only had three goals to show for their efforts at full time.
The goals were scored by Jamie Girton, Marcus Fanson and Charlie Wilson.
Tigers’ boss Dan Prettejohn said: “It was a good work out for us and I thank Lyme Regis for the game. It was a totally different game to the ones we have already played, but I like that. It’s important that we do face so many ‘different’ sort of challenges in pre-season.”
He continued: “This one was more of a battle of attrition, a good old fashioned ‘scrap’ – indeed I might also say it got a wee bit ‘meaty’ at times,. But we came out of unscathed and injury free and it will have done the lads no ham whatsoever to get that sort of a 90 minutes ‘under their belts’.”
There was one aspect of the performance that the Tigers’ boss was not so happy with as he explained saying: “We are going to need to be more clinical in our finishing, but that’s what pre-season and warm-up games are all about – preparing for the bread-and-butter of our footballing existence – the start of league action – and so, 90 minutes spent wasting chances against Lyme Regis in a July fixture ought to be a positive to take into the league campaign when, hopefully, such a chance creation count will add up to a few more than three goals at the end of a game!”
