There are just a handful of days left before the Joma Devon & Exeter League kicks back into action on Saturday (April 3).
The spotlight, in terms of East Devon clubs, falls on Feniton, who resume their Premier East campaign with an away game at Lyme Regis.
There’s a very different look about the Premier East table as the 2020/21 campaign resumes.
Before the season came to a grinding halt, Feniton had won nine successive league matches and number 10 was, ironically, set to see them travel to Lyme Regis!
At that stage of the campaign, pre Christmas, Fenny were clearly on their way to a runaway title success.
However, with just five teams involved when the season resumes on Saturday, the league table has been altered accordingly and it means that Fenny travel across to Lyme looking to continue their leadership of the table.
However, whereas, when the season was suspended back in December, Feniton held an n11 point lead over second placed Kentisbeare.
The new-look table has Feniton top with nine points from three games with five to play to complete the campaign.
Lyme Regis are now second with six points from two games and so Saturday’s game has a very different look to it when set against ‘what might have been’ had the season not been suspended.
The only other Premier East game being played on Saturday is the one at Kentisbeare where Dawlish United are the visitors. Both Premier East games have 3pm kick-off times.
There’s plenty of local interest in Division One East with four matches. There’s a noon kick-off for the East Devon derby between Exmouth Rovers and Otterton – this game being played at Otterton’s Stantaway home. It’s then 3pm start times for the games at Clyst Valley, where Lympstone are the visitors, at East Budleigh, who are taking on Dunkeswell Rovers and at Teignmouth where Lyme Regis Reserves are the visitors.
Division One East also has an Easter Monday fixture with Otterton back in action and a 3pm start time for a game at Lyme Regis while Exmouth Rovers travel to Teignmouth.
In Division Two East there are three games and ‘the big two’ of Axminster Town Reserves and Ottery St Mary Reserves are in action with a 3pm start for the Town second team game at Millwey Rise and there’s also a 3pm start for the Otters’ home meeting with Exeter United. The other game in this division sees Pinhoe meet East Budleigh Reserves at Pinhoe (3pm). This division also has an Easter Monday game with Feniton Reserves hosting Axminster Town Reserves (3pm).
Division Three East sees just two matches on the first Saturday after ‘re-start’. Offwell Rangers are in action at Dawlish United Reserves while the other game is taking place in Exeter with Winchester Reserves hosting Devon Yeoman.
In Division Three West, table-topping Bradninch travel to Elmore Thirds while there are also matches at Central, where Cullompton Rangers are the visitors, at Halwill, where Witheridge Reserves provide the opposition and also at Chagford, where Tiverton-based Amory Green Rovers are the away side. This division also has two East Monday matches with action at Chagford, against Elmore and also at Halwill, where Broadclyst are the visitors.
Division Four East has four Saturday matches with Bradninch Reserves entertaining Falcons, Dawlish United meet Exmouth Town Thirds, Lympstone Reserves host Ottery St Mary and Otterton Reserves are at home to Dons. There’s one Easter Monday game in this division with Ottery St Mary Reserves in action at Uplowman where they will be taking on hosts Falcons.
