Football is back at Washbrook Meadow this evening (Wednesday) as Ottery St Mary entertain Exeter University in a Scott Richards Solicitors Devon League Cup tie.
It’s the first ‘competitive’ match since ‘football restart’ a couple of weeks ago. Speaking ahead of the game, Ottery Chairman Mikey Ringer said: “We are taking the competition seriously as we go into everything of a competitive nature with an ‘in-it-to-win-it’ mentality and attitude.”
He continued: “We are using this competition very much as a pre-season, pre-season in as much as we will be giving opportunities to players that are coming up through the ranks at the club and we shall also be looking to integrate a couple of recent signings who, had we not been in Lockdown III, we’d have already bedded in, in terms of playing time.”
Tonight’s match is behind closed doors and the Ottery chairman says: “We are going to look at things over the coming days and weeks to ensure that we follow all the guidelines with regards to Covid pandemic protocols. “This game with the Uni is behind closed doors, but we are hoping it won’t be long before Washbrook Meadows is alive with a match night crowd.”
We’ll bring you news of the game here tomorrow (Thursday) and come back later in the week when we will be having another chat with the Ottery chairman.
