Phear Park Peter Nelson Memorial Shield win for Sue, Paul and David

Liz Nelson (second left) presenting the Peter Nelson Memorial Shield to the winning team of Paul Beresford Sue Smith, David Horne.

Six teams contested the Peter Nelson Memorial Shield at Phear Park, writes Paul and Kay Beresford.

This is an internal competition held annually in honour of club stalwart and several times Captain, Peter Nelson.

This year the Shield was won by Sue Smith, Paul Beresford and David Horne, with a score difference of plus 15.

There followed a presentation of the Shield by Liz Nelson to the victorious triple.

The match, which was played in glorious weather, was followed by a well earned fish and chip supper in the clubhouse.

In other news, Park visited Uffculme for a mixed triples friendly. Park were grateful for the loan of two Uffculme players, J. Snell and C. Hallett to complete their sides. There followed a very enjoyable and close game that resulted in a narrow defeat for Park of 62-60. Our triple of Nigel Oates, J. Snell and Sarah Westacott won 23-17, whilst the triple of John Horne, C. Hallett and David Horne drew 14 all.

Sadly, the scheduled match at home against Feniton was called off by the visitors due to lack of players.
