Saturdays local football action

 Saturdays local football action

With Exmouth Town having a day off from Toolstation Western League duties and our four local rugby clubs, Exmouth, Sidmouth, Honiton and Withycombe all enjoying a weekend off from league action – all four are back in action next Saturday (November 20) – though that does of course only apply to the 1st XVs and there may well be other XV action at the clubs so, if you want to watch local rugby, give the club you want to visit, a call.

The spotlight, certainly in terms of East Devon football, shines brightly on Acland Park, Feniton where there is a special; ‘stand opening ceremony’ – that takes place at 1.30pm – ahead of the 2.15pm kick-off of a Scott Richards Solicitors Devon League North & East derby match between Feniton and Budleigh Salterton.

With no Exmouth Town game, their large army of supporters will want to see how all the teams that are playing get on and the link to the Toolstation Western League is http://toolstationleague.com/fixtures-results/

There’s also a ‘huge’ local derby in the South West Peninsula League with high-flying Ottery St Mary in action against Honiton Town. In a strange quirk of fate, this past Wednesday night, the Otters were doing the Hippos a big favour by hosting the Honiton Town versus Exeter City Devon St Lukes Bowl second round tie. A near 300 crowd at the Adam Brice Washbrook Meadows home of Ottery St Mary saw a youthful City side defeat the Hippos 2-1.

The meeting between the Hippos and the Otters is at Mountbatten Park where kick-off is at 2.15pm.

Sidmouth Town are also in SWP League action and they face a tough task as they entertain Brixham and that game, at Manstone Lane, kicks off at 3pm.

Completing our local action, certainly in terms of the SWP League, Premier East, are Axminster Town who make a swift return to Plymouth-based Elburton Villa who they beat on Tuesday night when the pair met to determine which of the teams joined the seven other clubs in the quarter-final of the Devon Bowl.

As well as the afore mentioned Feniton versus Budleigh Salterton game in the Devon League, there’s also action for Exmouth Town Reserves, who entertain Alphington in a game that has a 3pm kick-off, while Clyst Valley visit Braunton (2.15pm). Topsham Town are also in action, but in their case it’s to play a McDonalds Cup tie at Teignmouth (2pm).
