Sidmouth proves a happy hunting ground for the Bromley & Beckenham tourists

The Bromley & Beckenham Tourists together with hosts Sidmouth

Bromley & Beckenham District Bowling Association were the latest team to visit Sidmouth, writes Carol Smith.

The visitors are a touring team that comprises of players from 20 different clubs and they pitched up at Sidmouth with a 12 rink team.

The home team fielded six rinks for the morning action and, fielded  similar for the afternoon action.

It was good they were all staying at one of our seafront hotels and, when not playing, could be seen enjoying our lovely town

Sidmouth certainly proved to be very good hosts for they made the visitors very haply by losing overall across the two sessions with the final score being 192-161.

What was also not in doubt was that a very good day was had by all that were involved.

The best performing morning rink for Sidmouth would have to be the only one that served up home success with the quartet of Steve Boyle, Zena Johnson, Karen Hollingdale and skip Peter Mison securing an excellent 19-8 success.

In the afternoon, Sidmouth did manage to dish up three winning rinks with the best of them being the quartet of Chas Coates, Wilf Radburn and skip Brenda Somerfield, who secured a 20-9 win.

We did struggle to field enough players for both sessions,  but luckily three Sidmouth men offered to play twice and they were Ron Peppin, Chris Ward and Clive Brooks and we thank the three gentlemen for their supreme efforts in playing twice in that searing heat.
