Sidmouth Town will be hoping they enjoy a better December in terms of their South West Peninsula League Eastern Division campaign.
The final month of the year has not been a particularly fruitful one for the Vikings in recent seasons.
Over the past four years Town have only played a total of 10 matches in December and, to date, those December matches have seen the Vikings bank a dozen of the 30 possible points with Town winning three, drawing three and losing four.
2019/20: Town games played in December – 1
Dec 7 Home v Torrington Won 4-3
2018/19: Town games played in December – 2
Dec 8 Away v Crediton United Lost 1-3
Dec 26 Home v Budleigh Salterton Won 4-2
2017/18: Town games played in December – 3
Dec 9 Home v Honiton Town Lost 1-5
Dec 23 Away v Axminster Town Drew 2-2
Dec 26 Away v Budleigh Salterton Lost 1-3
2016/17: Town games played in December – 4
Dec 10 Away v Stoke Gabriel Lost 1-3
Dec 17 Home v Exwick Villa Drew 2-2
Dec 26 Home v Budleigh Salterton Won 4-0
Dec 31 Home v St Martins Drew 0-0
One thing’s for sure and that is that Sidmouth Town will face a busy December, playing five games in the space of 23 days with four of the five games being away from Manstone Lane with the only home fixture being the Boxing Day meeting with Honiton Town.
The Vikings December schedule reads:
Dec 5 Away v Torrington
Dec 12 Away v Ilfracombe Town
Dec 19 Away v Plymouth Marjon
Dec 26 Home v Honiton Town
Dec 28 Away v Crediton United
If we include Saturday, December 5 and take that as the first Saturday of the ‘re-start’ following Lockdown II, then there will be 22 Saturday’s remaining up to, and including, the first Saturday in May – traditionally when the leagues look to have completed their campaigns. (It is also important to consider that many games are likely to be lost to inclement weather during December, January, February and March.
