 Stunning sunset at Axe Cliff

The weather was set fare for the annual Axe Cliff meeting ‘Christmas Frolic’ which sees the Seniors’ and the ladies join together in teams of three, writes Dave Bruce.

There were 10 teams, each comprising of two men and a lady.

The winners were the trio of Jill Wellington, Andy Hopgood and Leighton Morgan who each took home a bottle of wine after they scored 83 points.

Second were the team of Jo Hopgood, Alan Folkard and the ever-youthful Terry Jessup, with 75 points, a  score that also saw each of them bag a nice box of chocolates.

That’s probably it for 2020 and competitions at Axe Cliff, and, supporting this article, and very much in mindful of the year we have battled through, is a fantastic picture taken by our adopted lady vicar, the lovely Karen Curnock.

Karen captured the setting sun from the top bunker on the first hole overlooking Seaton Bay with Beer’s headland behind, praying for a bright new dawn of hope not only for Axe Cliff, but for all mankind.

This is surely going to come with our  very own 85-years-young Geoff Hughes getting his first Covid 19 mRNA Vaccine BNT 16262 jab at Seaton’s hospital last Wednesday, with his second booked in early January.

I let him go in on his own, but I should have gone in as well as he fell asleep after reading the first two pages of the four page leaflet you must read before accepting the vaccine!

Luckily, the nurse was able to wake him with a sharp prod and he was allowed a 15 minute rest afterwards in case of any reaction.

Thanks for reading and I sign off, on behalf of all at Axe Cliff Golf Club, wishing everyone a very happy Christmas followed by a healthy 2021.
