The Easter Monday Joma Devon & Exeter League local football saw a return to winning ways for Division Two East leaders Axminster Town.
The Tigers, who had their 100 per cent start to the truncated 2020/21 campaign brought to a crashing halt with Saturday’s 1-1 draw at near neighbours Millwey Rise, were 3-0 winners at Feniton Reserves.
Sam Winslade, Tom Edwards and Ryan Vickery scored the goals that got the Tigers back to winning ways.
Manager Dan Prettejohn – recently appointed as the Tigers 1st team boss, but sticking around to ‘finish what he started’ with the second team – had to dash off straight after the final whistle to oversee the Bank Holiday Monday evening takeaway business that he is running from his pub in the Blackdowns. It’s all go for the popular landlord who is also busy preparing for the reopening of pubs! We’ll be speaking with him over the next couple of days and will bring you the latest news from Dan and his team here.
Like Axminster Town Reserves, Ottery St Mary Development XI were also playing their second game inside 72 hours and they followed up Saturday’s 2-1 win with a 1-1 in what was a terrific Division Four East top of the table clash with Falcons.
The Otters were impressive from minute one of their meeting with the side that they share the premier spot in the table with. However, despite their clear dominance both of the ball and territory – the midfield duo of Callum Crow and Sam Pyne were imperious throughout – it was proving to be something of an ‘off-day’ in front of goal. That is, until a stunning finish from Max Thomas ensured the game ended all square.
