Axminster Town Football Club ambassador and commercial officer Ray Self is thrilled to see just how far the club has come as a new South West Peninsula League Premier East campaign beckons.
Self, who managed his home town club to Devon & Exeter League success, has an impressive footballing CV. He also managed Town in their inaugural season as a member of the South West Peninsula League when the club finished eighth.
He says: “In the past, as a club, we seem to have lost players to Chard and other clubs, but now it us as the club attracting players. This coming season we will have two good senior men’s squads and a ladies team as well as 11 youth teams including a Wildcats group.
He added: “I really am so pleased to see how things are going at Tiger Way. It is very clear to me that a club will not sustain on-the-pitch success without an equally successful off-the-field operation and, from what I have seen since returning to the club to take on the two roles that I currently oversee, we now have such a professional back-up providing that all important support to the on-pitch operation.
“I am not keen to single out individuals as I do, and passionately too, believe that, in a team it is not about the ‘big names’ or the ‘stars’. No! It’s all about making sure everyone feels appreciated for the part they play in the bigger picture and, towards that end, I am delighted to see just how many good people are involved on both sides of the footballing fence at Tiger Way these days.”
On the business side of things, Self has a number of commercial opportunities that he’d be keen to speak to local business folk about.
He says: “I have been so impressed with the amount of local business folk who have already got in touch. There clearly is a shared passion locally to help push the football club onto greater heights.
“What I would add is that if there are business people reading this who would like to get involved with us then I’d love to have a conversation with them. We do have a number of different opportunities from ground board holding to match and match ball sponsorships and we can tailor such packages to suit all levels of budgets.”
