Willand Rovers Football Club are mourning the passing of Mike Mares who was more affectionately known by all involved with the Silver Street Club as ‘Bacon’.

Mike  passed away in Hospital in Exeter earlier this week and the Rovers social media accounts were quick to carry a club statement that read:

‘It is with great sadness that Willand Rovers announces the passing of Mike Mares, past Chairman and Honorary Vice President of  the Club.

‘Mike, affectionately known as ‘Bacon’ to everyone who knew him, has been involved at Willand Rovers for over 50 years in many and varied roles.

‘He will be perhaps be best remembered at WRFC for establishing the successful bingo sessions that are still held today and in more recent years for steadfastly, and in all weathers, manning the entry gate on matchdays.

‘Everyone at the club sends Darren and the rest of the family their most sincere condolences. Mike may now have left us, but he will never be forgotten in the history of Willand Rovers FC.
