There might be no rugby action just now for rugby players across the board in Devon (with the exception of Exeter Chiefs and other elite clubs), but it has not stopped the juniors from Withycombe RFC getting out and about and doing some real good too, in the local community.
A combination of Withy junior players, coaches and families decided to give their local community a ‘tidy up’.
Over the course of the day, and observing all pandemic safety protocols, the willing volunteers could be seen in Lympstone, Budleigh, Otterton, Tipton St John and Exmouth making a difference to their local area.
Thanks to their outstanding efforts literally thousands of pieces of rubbish have been removed from the areas parks, beaches, streets and streams.
This is just the latest way in which Withycombe RFC have been giving back to to the community during the lockdowns and is also a great way for people to get out, exercise and make a difference.
The Withycombe RFC junior section chair, Mark Long, was clearly very proud of the collective effort saying: “What a fantastic effort from all involved and just shows again how rugby is playing its part in local communities during these strangest of times.”
